Irving Howe Memorial Lecture

The fifteenth annual Irving Howe Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Kwame Anthony Appiah, the Laurance S. Rockefeller University Professor of Philosophy at Princeton, on Wednesday, November 17 at 6 PM. The subject is “The Life and Death of Honor.” It will take place at the Elebash Recital Hall at the CUNY Graduate Center, 365 Fifth Avenue (at 34th Street). Professor Appiah is the author of a memoir, In My Father’s House, and of Cosmopolitanism, Experiments in Ethics, and, most recently, The Honor Code: How Moral Revolutions Happen. These lectures, sponsored by the Center for the Humanities, honor the late critic, editor, and political writer Irving Howe, who taught at the City University of New York from 1963 to 1986. They are made possible by a generous gift from the late Max Palevsky and are free and open to the public.
