Mixed Company from the April 8, 1965 issue
To the Editors:
Calvin Hernton and Norman Pritchard are probably the most significant poets to appear on the scene since Allen Ginsberg and Robert Creeley. Mr. Mazzocco’s review of their poetry on the record album “Destinations” not only failed to make this point clear, it also led one to believe that Mazzocco was a little afraid of their ability to upset the powers that be in poetry circles. While Jerome Badanes is no Ginsberg he is certainly more quite to carry on the search than all the Neo-beat poets put together.
In brief, “Destinations” is an important landmark in poetic history (Mr. Lucas is to be thanked for his insight not to be put down as a dreamer).
