To the Editors:
Once again, we would like to appeal to your readers for volunteer help at the US office of Amnesty International in New York City.
Amnesty International is a non-political, non-governmental organization dedicated to securing the release of those imprisoned for political, racial, or religious reasons. Now celebrating its tenth anniversary, Amnesty International has been involved in the release of more than 3,000 “prisoners of conscience” on both sides of the Iron Curtain, and works actively on behalf of thousands still detained and their families.
The US office coordinates the activities of individual and group members of Amnesty, supplying us with information on which we base our letters of appeal. More and more Amnesty groups are being organized across the country, and more and more individual members are requesting information from the office.
If anyone can help, or would like more information about Amnesty’s work, please contact Dr. Amelia Augustus at Amnesty International of the USA, 200 West 72 Street, New York, NY 10023, (212) 724-9907.
