The Poisoned Country from the June 6, 1996 issue
The editors regret two printer’s errors that appeared in Philip Gourevitch’s article on Burundi in the June 6 issue, both on page 58. In the third column on that page, Mr. Gourevitch refers to “reports that more than 200 [not twenty] Hutu civilians were killed on May 5 by Tutsi soldiers or militias in Northern Burundi….” The second error occurs a few lines below, where the sentence should read: “Staff members of the [not “three”] international humanitarian agencies which have not already left Burundi are frequently attacked.”
Through no fault of James Fenton’s, Léon Daudet was misidentified as Alphonse Daudet in his article on Maillol in the May 9 issue.
