Jonathan Lieberson Prize

Your readers may be interested to know that the seventh Jonathan Lieberson Memorial Prize in Philosophy has been awarded to Jonathan Neufeld for his essay “Why Public Reason? Which Public Reason?” Mr. Neufeld received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota in 1993 and came to Columbia to pursue his Ph.D. in Philosophy. The prize of $1,000 is awarded each year for the best essay by a graduate student in the Philosophy Department at Columbia University “showing applicability of moral or scientific theory or both to a social or historical issue.” The award was donated by friends of the late Jonathan Lieberson, who was a contributing editor of The New York Review of Books and the author of Varieties.
