To the Editors:
The seventh annual Irving Howe Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Deborah Meier, distinguished educator, author, and former MacArthur Fellow, at 6 PM on Monday, November 18, in the Elebash Recital Hall of the CUNY Graduate Center, 365 Fifth Avenue (at 34th Street). The subject is “In Schools We Trust?” There will be a response from Professor Diane Ravitch of the Department of Education at New York University. These lectures, sponsored by the Center for the Humanities, honor the late critic, editor, and political writer Irving Howe, who taught at the City University of New York from 1963 to 1986. The lectures are made possible by a generous gift from Mr. Max Palevsky. They are free and open to the public. For more information call the Center for the Humanities at 212-817-2006.
