In response to:
Afghanistan: On the Brink from the June 22, 2006 issue
To the Editors:
In my article “Afghanistan: On the Brink” [NYR, June 22], I stated that Creative Associates International, Inc. had received a contract from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to build schools in Afghanistan. This is not true and I regret the error. The Washington Post published no such report about Creative Associates. In fact, the company printed and distributed textbooks and trained teachers in Afghanistan for USAID. The contract for school reconstruction was made with another company.
