Prokofiev Makes His Moves from the May 10, 2007 issue
In Orlando Figes’s “Prokofiev Makes His Moves” [NYR, May 10], Prokofiev played his First Piano Concerto in the Rubinstein Prize competition for students graduating from the St. Petersburg Conservatory. The passage that Prokofiev said should sound “like the wind in a graveyard” is in the opening movement of his Violin Sonata No. 1 in F Minor, Opus 80.
