In response to:
The Reign of Thuggery from the June 26, 2008 issue
In the June 26 issue, in Joshua Hammer’s article on Zimbabwe, the improvement in literacy was misstated. According to UN figures, the overall literacy rate in Zimbabwe has increased from about 70 percent in 1980 to roughly 90 percent today, the highest in southern Africa. In Jasper Griffin’s review of The Virgilian Tradition: The First Fifteen Hundred Years, edited by Jan M. Ziolkowski and Michael C.J. Putnam, it should have been made clear that Maffeo Vegio’s completion of the Aeneid is included not only in the reviewed work but also in Maffeo Vegio, Short Epics, edited and translated by Michael C.J. Putnam with James Hankins (I Tatti Renaissance Library/Harvard University Press, 2004.)
