In response to:
The Genius of George Inness from the September 25, 2008 issue
To the Editors:
We read with pleasure Andrew Butterfield’s “The Genius of George Inness” with its insightful appreciation and interpretations of Inness’s art and recent Inness publications and exhibitions. For those committed to Inness’s genius it is worth noting that the Montclair Art Museum, the lender of two works cited by Butterfield, has had since 2001 a gallery dedicated to Inness’s art that includes nine works by the artist painted from 1848 to the early 1890s. In fact, the museum’s Inness Gallery, a gift of Frank and Katherine Martucci, is the only gallery in a museum devoted solely to the work of Inness.
