“What Will She Do?,” hosted by Merve Emre, will examine women’s consciousness in novels by Jane Austen, George Eliot, Henry James, Nella Larsen, and Elif Batuman. This series will run from September 2024 through May 2025. Use the links below to register for each seminar.

Elif Batuman’s Either / Or (3 sessions): May 5, 12, 19

“Tragic Meaning: The Iliad and Greek Drama,” hosted by Daniel Mendelsohn, will lead participants through an exploration of “the idea of the tragic” as expressed in the Iliad and selected works by the three great Athenian dramatists, Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides. This series will run from January through May 2025. Use the links below to register for each seminar.

Homer, The Iliad (6 sessions: January 15, 22, 29, February 5, 12, 19)
Aeschylus: Persians, Oresteia (4 sessions: March 5, 12, 19, 26)
Sophocles: Ajax, Antigone, Oedipus, Philoctetes (4 sessions: April 9, 16, 23, 30)
Euripides: Alcestis, Hippolytus, Medea, Bacchae (4 sessions: May 7, 14, 21, 28)


In both series, we are offering memberships at two levels: Full Members will have the opportunity discuss the work with the seminar leader during the live sessions, while Auditors will be able to listen in on the discussion. Both memberships will have access to our discussion board, hosted on the Canvas platform, as in our previous seminars.
