In response to:
Norman in Egypt from the April 28, 1983 issue
To the Editors:
In his review of Norman Mailer’s Ancient Evenings [NYR, April 28], Harold Bloom refers to John Irwin’s American Hieroglyphics: The Symbol of the Egyptian Hieroglyphics in the American Renaissance as the “definitive study” of the fascination on the part of American writers with things Egyptian. Your readers may wish to know that a paperback edition of Professor Irwin’s book will be available at $8.95, from the Johns Hopkins University Press in August of this year.
