Kallman in Athens

May I correct the chronology in the next-to-last paragraph of my review of Auden in Love? Chester Kallman’s final visit to New York took place in December 1971, not, as Dorothy Farnan has it, December 1972. The year of the January 11 dinner and of Auden’s birthday party and departure for Europe was 1972, therefore, not 1973, and Kallman’s Vienna-to-Paris telephone call to Vera Stravinsky came twenty months later, not eight months. Also, the October 1949 concert took place on the 22nd not the 21st.
