The New York Review of Books at The Brooklyn Book Festival
The campus protest movement that arose in response to the Israel-Hamas war has precipitated a crisis that extends far beyond the walls of Academe—and far beyond questions relating to the war itself. From administrative crackdowns on student organizations to the controversial testimony of Ivy League university presidents before Congress concerning the competing claims of student safety and free speech, from government interference in university administrations to the use of police to repress campus protests, the last year has seen an explosion of complex questions about the politics of speech on campus and, more generally, the relationship of higher education to politics. Speaking on the subject will be New York Review of Books contributors David Cole, Mark Lilla, and Annette Gordon-Reed.
This program will also be recorded for C-Span BookTV.
